two men in small rooms

kafka: a man wakes up as an insect
and his first thought is that he will be late for work.

dostoevsky: a man spends four days with a girl
and calls it enough for a whole life.

one cannot stop working long enough to notice he is dying.
the other cannot stop being grateful long enough to notice he was robbed.

i have been both men. sometimes in the same week.
