the axe
kafka said a book must be the axe for the frozen sea inside us.
people quote this like it’s about passion.
it isn’t.
an axe is not warm. it doesn’t thaw anything.
it breaks.
the sea was already frozen. that’s the part nobody sits with.
you were walking around on it. it held your weight.
you had built a life up there.
a good book is not the one that moved you.
it’s the one you couldn’t stand on afterwards.
