all i can do is write

poem

inspired from the words of Deveshi Sahgal.

If grief was a coin
That needed to be spent
If grief was a letter
That was never meant to be sent
If grief was a blade
That could carve out the day
And if grief was a fog
That would not lift away

I have scales on my chest
Where the soft skin should sit
A wolf holds my jaw
And a crow keeps my eye
My hands know the weight
Of a door pulled shut
And my silence will answer
When the world asks why

I would cut the wires
Where the old faces burn
The ones that feed my pride
The ones I can’t unlearn
I would drown the current
Before it reached my skin
So nothing gets out
And nothing gets in

But at last
My blood is still warm
And my skin is still thin
And sometimes
When I can’t do much
All I can do is WRITE
